Job Requirements of Quality Control Manager - Underground Utilities:
The Quality Control Manager will report directly to the Director of Construction and oversee a team of 8 field and QC professionals.This role is critical in ensuring the highest quality standards across all trenchless underground utility projects-including power, telecom, and gas installations.
You'll be instrumental in implementing quality systems, driving field compliance, and working closely with foremen, PMs, and subcontractors to ensure safety, accuracy, and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all quality control efforts for active underground utility projects (dry utilities)
Conduct jobsite inspections and audits to ensure compliance with internal standards, client requirements, and relevant codes (OSHA, NEC, NESC)
Review project drawings and specifications to verify alignment with field execution
Maintain and develop QC documentation, including checklists, inspection reports, and logs
Coordinate corrective actions and quality improvement efforts with project managers and foremen
Train and mentor field crews on quality standards and installation best practices
Verify material and equipment compliance with approved submittals
Lead root cause analysis on issues impacting quality or performance
Support project close-out procedures, including final QC sign-offs and as-built records
Build and maintain strong communication with internal teams, inspectors, and clients

Profile
5-15 years of experience in quality control, inspection, or field supervision in underground utilities or related civil construction
Strong knowledge of trenchless utility installation (bore, jack and bore, HDD, etc.)
Familiarity with OSHA standards, NEC/NESC codes, and QA/QC best practices
Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and specs
Strong communication and organizational skills
Detail-oriented and committed to continuous improvement
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, small-team environment
Leadership or team oversight experience is a plus
Job Offer
Base Salary: Up to $100K+ depending on experience
