Traveling Safety Director - Construction

We are seeking a Traveling Safety Director to oversee and lead the safety department for a mid-sized general contractor specializing in commercial construction. This role requires regular regional travel from Washington, D.C. to Boston, MA to ensure consistent safety standards and compliance across all active project sites.

Their project portfolio consists primarily of commercial interior fit-outs as well as select ground‑up construction projects. The company emphasizes collaboration, safety, and high-quality delivery across all their work in the Northeast region.

Description

  • Safety Leadership: Oversee and manage the company's safety department, including policies, procedures, and on-site implementation.
  • Traveling Role: Conduct regular site visits across the Northeast region to ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company protocols.
  • Quality Control: Lead incident investigations, root-cause analyses, and corrective action planning.
  • Documentation: Maintain up‑to‑date safety documentation, reporting, and training records.
  • Team Leadership: Collaborate closely with project management and field teams to proactively identify risks and implement preventive safety measures.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure company-wide adherence to OSHA 30 and OSHA 500 requirements, while promoting additional safety certifications.

Profile

  • Minimum 5 years of combined experience in construction or safety, with at least 3 years working for a general contractor.
  • Possesses required OSHA 30 and OSHA 500 certifications; additional certifications are a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience managing people and influencing cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication skills-both written and verbal-with the ability to lead training sessions and present safety programs.
  • Highly organized, with excellent time-management skills and strong computer proficiency.
  • Willing and able to travel regularly, including overnight stays.
  • Conversational Spanish skills are an advantage.
