Controller - Construction
Our client, a well-established construction firm based in Waldwick, NJ, is looking for an experienced Controller. This is a temp to perm or FTE role, and the successful candidate will have 5-10+ years of Construction/Real Estate experience.

Well-established construction firm based in Waldwick, NJ. This role is 5 days per week in office, and offers an individual with 5-10+ years of construction experience a chance to join a stable team.
Description
This role will involve:
Lead the company's financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
• Provide strategic financial insight to support business growth and profitability.
• Develop and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts across projects and entities.
• Advise leadership on financial risk, project performance, and operational efficiency.
• Assist leadership with financial planning related to company growth, new developments, and capital investment.
• Oversee job cost accounting and ensure accurate cost tracking across all projects.
• Maintain and review WIP schedules and support revenue recognition
• Ensure proper setup of project budgets within the accounting system.
• Partner with project managers to monitor project performance, cost-to-complete projections, and margin analysis.
• Oversee change order tracking, committed cost reporting, and subcontractor billing compliance.
• Oversee accounting and financial reporting across multiple affiliated real estate entities.
• Ensure accurate intercompany accounting and entity-level financial reporting.
• Coordinate financial reporting and compliance related to development partnerships, lenders, and investors when applicable.
• Manage month-end and year-end close
• Prepare and oversee accurate financial statements
• Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance
• Coordinate with external CPA for tax preparation and audits.
• Lead and manage the accounting department, including AP, AR, Payroll, etc.
• Monitor receivables and manage collections.
• Improve financial reporting structures and internal workflows.
• Develop scalable accounting systems and procedures to support company growth.
• Optimize use of accounting software.
Profile
The successful candidate will have:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 10+ years of accounting with significant experience in construction accounting.
• Experience in companies performing $20M+ in annual construction revenue
• Strong knowledge of WIP reporting, percentage of completion revenue recognition, job costing, cash flow forecasting, and construction billing practices.
• Experience with Spectrum or similar construction accounting software strongly preferred.
• Strong leadership and team development skills
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with operations.
• High integrity and commitment to transparency and accountability.
