Client Details

Our client is a reputable, General Contractor with HQ in the Greater Kansas City Area. Delivering quality for almost 100 years, they specialize in the multi-family, industrial, federal, and public project spaces. Due to growth in the pipeline, they are looking to bring on an experienced and dedicated Senior Estimator with a background working in the federal space to join the team. This individual will be essential to their work/projects and continued growth!

Description

This role leads and supports preconstruction and estimating efforts for assigned projects, from bid strategy development through proposal submission, ensuring accuracy, quality, and competitiveness.

  • Actively contributes to bid strategy discussions during pursuit planning and proposal kickoff meetings.
  • Develops and gains approval for the estimating approach for each project; enforces quality control measures to ensure accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Analyzes proposal specifications and drawings to define project scope and estimate requirements.
  • Solicits and coordinates subcontractor and supplier bids; engages with vendors to secure competitive responses before bid deadlines.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with trade partners to support project success.
  • Calculates cost factors and prepares estimates for self-performed work, subcontractor selection, and overall cost-effectiveness.
  • Reviews and compares subcontractor and supplier proposals for alignment with project requirements to determine best value.
  • Assists in preparing technical content and qualifications for RFPs and RFQs.
  • Ensures adequate bid coverage from qualified subcontractors and suppliers for assigned projects.
  • Develops preliminary schedules for both preconstruction and construction phases.
  • Provides peer reviews of cost estimates and mentors junior estimators on assigned projects.
  • Owns and oversees the pricing and bidding process for projects; ensures consistent application of quality control standards and communicates bid risks to leadership.
  • Supervises, mentors, and develops estimating staff; creates and implements development plans for direct reports.
  • Leads preconstruction efforts, including coordination of design teams on design-build projects.

Profile

  • Degree in Construction Management/Science (or related field)
  • 7+ years of experience as an Estimator and/or within Preconstruction
  • Experience estimating projects $20M+
  • Experience estimating federal projects
  • Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Skilled in reading, interpreting, and analyzing construction drawings and project specifications
  • Capable of developing accurate cost estimates based on conceptual designs
  • Experienced in using construction estimating and bidding software such as BuildingConnected, On-Screen Takeoff, and PlanSwift
  • Strong mathematical aptitude and analytical thinking abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
