Director of HR & Safety - Manufacturing

Our client is looking for a high-impact Director of HR & Safety reporting directly to the CFO. The position sits out of the HQ in the Charleston/Huntington area of West Virginia. This role will have broad strategic and operational responsibility across multiple sites in the Southeast and Southwest U.S. They will manage a team of HR and safety professionals, as well as act as a key advisor to senior leaders on HR initiatives around organization development, people strategy, and more.

The company manufactures a wide range of products and serves a variety of sectors such as construction, utilities, oil and gas, and water infrastructure. Their customer relationships are long-standing, built on personalized service, product performance, and a deep understanding of industry standards and evolving market needs.

The ideal candidate for the Director role is a transformational HR leader with strong business acumen, a track record of scaling companies, and a hands-on, approachable leadership style. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment, brings structure and strategy to people operations, and isn't afraid to get in the weeds when needed.

This person should have extensive people management experience, a strong desire to develop and mentor teams, and the ability to foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment. This role offers an opportunity to influence business decisions at the executive level, so business acumen is a must. The Director will support C-Suite and senior-level leaders with initiatives such as performance management, succession planning, compensation strategy, training & development, and more.

The Director of HR & Safety will play a key role in scaling the organization and ensuring HR adds measurable value as the company continues to grow.

** This role is on-site full-time in the Charleston/Huntington area of West Virginia. About 20% of travel will be required. **

Description

  • Develop and Execute HR Strategies: Align HR initiatives with business goals, focusing on workforce planning, talent acquisition, and organizational development to support manufacturing operations.

  • Partner with Senior Leadership: Collaborate with executives to drive strategic workforce planning, leadership development, and change management initiatives.

  • Oversee Compensation and Workforce Planning: Design competitive compensation structures, benefits programs, and workforce planning strategies to attract and retain top manufacturing talent.

  • Enhance Employee Relations and Compliance: Foster a positive workplace by managing employee relations, ensuring labor law compliance, and implementing policies that support engagement and retention.

  • Drive Continuous Improvement in HR Processes: Utilize data analytics and HR metrics to improve efficiency, streamline processes, and enhance decision-making within the manufacturing environment.

Profile

  • 10+ years of HR experience in a manufacturing setting
  • People management experience
  • Proven compensation analysis/strategy experience
  • Ability to travel 20%
