Comptroller
The Comptroller will oversee all accounting and financial activities. This role requires a seasoned finance professional with extensive experience in managing non-profit financial operations, including preparation and filing of IRS Form 990, governmental grants, and employee benefits administration. The ideal candidate will have a strong drive for process improvement and a keen interest in leveraging technology to enhance financial operations.

This client is an organization in the Education sector of the NFP industry.
Description
- Manage all accounting functions, including AP, AR, general ledger, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Prepare and present quarterly financials, budget variances, and year-end projections.
- Lead budget meetings and collaborate with the Board on annual budget development.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of financial reports (e.g., IRS Form 990, CHAR500, Form 5500, NYC Directive 12).
- Oversee external audits and address tax compliance matters.
- Monitor grant expenditures and submit financial reports for government reimbursements.
- Administer employee benefits, including retirement plans and health insurance.
- Work with investment advisors to optimize asset allocation and investment strategies.
- Implement technology solutions to improve financial processes and reporting.
- Identify financial risks and establish internal controls.
- Optimize banking relationships and cash flow strategies.
- Provide financial insights to support organizational decision-making.
- Develop and mentor accounting staff.
Profile
- Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
- Extensive/progressive finance/accounting experience, with at least 3 years in the nonprofit sector.
- Expertise in government grants and IRS Form 990 compliance.
- Strong knowledge of employee benefits administration.
- Proven ability to drive process improvements and implement financial technology.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Excel (Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains and other banking, financial reporting, and document management systems a plus).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
