Experienced Construction Estimator - RI based Commercial GC
RI's GO-TO General Contractor seeking an experienced Commercial Construction Estimator - the general function of this role is to utilize appropriate resources to estimate the amount of money, time, materials, and labor required to complete a given construction projects.

Job Cost Calculation & Estimating
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, and other project documentation to accurately compute labor, materials, and time requirements.
- Estimate project costs based on current workforce availability, industry standards, and typical costs, ensuring alignment with project budgets.
- Continuously monitor project progress, tracking costs and timelines, and engage with senior leadership to report on developments and adjustments as necessary.
Subcontractor & Vendor Bid Management
- Coordinate the bid process by sharing detailed project specifications with subcontractors and vendors, requesting bids for pricing purposes.
- Manage the creation and maintenance of an RFI (Request for Information) log, reviewing responses to clarify and resolve any uncertainties.
- Evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals to ensure scope accuracy, including quantities, schedule adherence, and inclusions/exclusions.
- Identify discrepancies or gaps in scope by using bid leveling sheets, and resolve any issues with the respective subcontractors or vendors.
- Negotiate competitive pricing, ensuring that project requirements are met while staying within budget. Collaborate with the project team to establish preliminary schedules.
Subcontractor & Vendor Relationship Management
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and vendors to ensure reliable, consistent support aligned with organizational needs.
- Develop a network of trusted subcontractors and vendors to ensure sufficient capacity and expertise for ongoing and future projects.
Business Development & Proposal Support
- Collaborate with the Business Development and Marketing teams to compile accurate and competitive cost information for project proposals.
- Assist in the creation of proposal submissions, providing clear, data-backed cost estimates.
- Present proposals to senior leadership for review before engaging with potential clients during the interview process.
Team Development & Leadership
- Provide guidance, coaching, and constructive feedback to members of the Estimating team to support their professional growth.
- Conduct timely and effective performance reviews in accordance with company policies and objectives.
- Oversee the ongoing training and development of the Estimating team, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their roles.
Profile
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in construction estimating, project management with a general contractor, or a related field.
- Proven ability to generate accurate cost estimates based on project plans, specifications, and scope of work.
- Strong understanding of construction industry pricing and the ability to negotiate effectively with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Expert proficiency in reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications, ensuring accurate cost assessments and project alignment.
- Skilled in data analysis to assess project costs, identify trends, and make informed decisions.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and estimating software (e.g., BuildingConnected or similar tools).
- Familiarity with the local subcontractor and supplier market is highly preferred, with an established network of reliable contacts.
Job Offer
- Base salary up to $145,000 - dependent on level, relevance, and years of experience
