Accounting Manager - CPG - Chicago, IL
I'm partnered with the CFO at a multi-million dollar consumer goods company in Chicago, IL (operating on a hybrid schedule). They are in rapid growth mode right now, looking to bring on an Accounting Manager to join their team.
Reporting directly into the Director of Finance (who we placed as the Controller 2 years ago and already got promoted!), you will be responsible for running the day-to-day accounting function by handling the entire month-end close process with tons of cross-functional collaboration. In addition, you will also have the ability to create and implement accounting & finance operational strategies to drive the business forward.

Description
Accounting Manager Responsibilities:
- Month-End Close - Oversee and drive the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statement preparation (P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow), while aligning with the dynamic demands of a rapidly growing start-up.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis - Manage the creation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, delivering actionable insights into the company's financial performance to support informed decision-making.
- ERP Implementation - As we transition from NetSuite to a more suitable ERP, play a pivotal role in guiding the implementation process. You will engage closely with internal teams and external consultants to define requirements, customize workflows, and ensure successful deployment. Responsibilities will also include data migration, system testing, and staff training to ensure smooth adoption.
- ERP Optimization & Support - Post-implementation, manage and enhance ERP functionality by resolving issues and identifying opportunities to improve system efficiency and optimize processes.
- Process Improvement - Regularly evaluate and refine accounting processes, controls, and workflows to drive scalability and operational efficiency. Automate manual tasks and eliminate bottlenecks to support fast-paced growth.
- Team Leadership & Development - Lead, mentor, and develop an expanding team of accountants, fostering professional growth and establishing a high-performance, results-driven environment.
- Compliance & Audit - Ensure all financial activities comply with GAAP, internal controls, and relevant regulations. Spearhead or contribute to year-end audits, tax filings, and financial reporting.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration - Partner with departments such as operations, marketing, and eCommerce to integrate financial data and contribute to strategic business initiatives.
- Ad-Hoc Projects - Contribute to critical strategic initiatives, including analysis of new and existing revenue streams.
Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
- 5+ years of accounting experience
- Manufacturing experience
- Managerial experience nice to have
- Public accounting experience nice to have
- Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and analytical thinking, and the ability to think outside the box and improve existing processes
- Intermediate Excel skills, including pivot tables, vlookups, sumifs, etc
- Experience with NetSuite (preferred) or other accounting software such as QuickBooks or Sage Intacct
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- CPA preferred or the pursuit of such certification
