Description
The Director of Construction or Precon Manager will be responsible for:
- Lead all preconstruction efforts from concept through GMP and handoff to operations
- Manage and mentor a team of estimators and preconstruction professionals
- Collaborate with clients, architects, and internal teams to develop accurate budgets and schedules
- Oversee bid strategies, subcontractor outreach, and proposal development
- Ensure alignment between design intent, budget, and constructability
- Support business development efforts with technical expertise and client presentations
- Drive continuous improvement in preconstruction processes and tools
- Report directly to executive leadership and contribute to strategic planning
Profile
The successful Director of Construction will have the following:
- 10+ years of experience in preconstruction or estimating, with at least 3 in a leadership role
- Strong background in commercial construction, especially K-12 or mixed-use projects
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple complex pursuits
- Deep understanding of cost modeling, value engineering, and design-build delivery
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills
- Proficiency with modern estimating software and digital takeoff tools
