The Director of Construction will build the construction department and oversee construction operations across a growing multifamily portfolio from initial planning to execution by driving collaboration with internal teams, developing and maintaining reporting standards, and building a high-performing team of individuals.

Our client is a fast-growing, vertically integrated real estate development company with a strong presence across the U.S. and deep roots in the Midwest. They own and manage multifamily properties and thousands of residential units and are looking for a results-driven Director of Construction to lead their strategic growth initiatives.
Description
- Direct and coordinate all aspects of construction initiatives across a diverse multifamily portfolio, ensuring seamless planning, budgeting, scheduling, and delivery.
- Lead and mentor internal project teams while managing relationships with outside contractors, consultants, and service providers.
- Align construction strategies with operational objectives by partnering closely with property and asset management teams to enhance resident experience.
- Support acquisition and investment efforts by evaluating capital requirements and preparing renovation strategies and cost projections during due diligence.
- Oversee execution of large-scale projects, maintaining strict control over timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Monitor progress and financial performance, providing detailed reports and actionable insights to senior leadership while proactively mitigating risks.
- Drive the development of project scopes, cost models, procurement processes, and contract negotiations to ensure competitive and transparent bidding.
- Establish standardized documentation and reporting frameworks for proposals, bids, contracts, site updates, and budget tracking.
- Implement best practices and operational policies to elevate efficiency, quality standards, and safety compliance across all construction activities.
- Partner with finance and asset management to forecast capital expenditures, prepare multi-year investment plans, and present strategic recommendations.
- Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing construction team, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
- Build and maintain strong vendor and contractor partnerships to ensure timely, cost-effective project completion.
- Guarantee adherence to regulatory requirements, building codes, and safety protocols at every stage of construction.
Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a similar field.
- Extensive background in construction leadership, ideally 10+ years managing complex projects, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior role.
- Demonstrated success overseeing project initiatives from concept through completion.
- Deep technical knowledge of structural systems, building materials, construction methodologies, and regulatory codes.
- Skilled in leveraging modern project management platforms and technology (such as Procore, Yardi, MS Project, or comparable tools) to streamline workflows.
- Proven ability to maintain strict adherence to timelines and budgets while managing multiple priorities.
- Exceptional leadership and team-building capabilities, with strong communication skills to engage both field teams and executive stakeholders.
- Flexibility to travel regularly to active job sites across the portfolio as required.
