Project Accountant - NY
The Project Accountant will be responsible for managing all accounting aspects of real estate projects, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, tracking project costs, and maintaining compliance with accounting principles and company policies. This role requires a strong understanding of real estate project accounting, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

My client is a leading real estate firm based in the heart of Manhattan (UWS), specializing in the development, acquisition, and management of residential and commercial properties. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Project Accountant to join our dynamic team.
Description
- Manage project accounting for multiple real estate developments, including tracking project costs, budgets, and forecasts.
- Prepare and review project-related invoices, ensuring accuracy and compliance with contract terms.
- Monitor and report on project budgets, helping to ensure projects are completed within budget and on time.
- Work closely with project managers to review costs and identify potential cost overruns or budget discrepancies.
- Reconcile project-related accounts and assist with month-end and year-end closings.
- Ensure all project financial records are accurate, complete, and compliant with company policies and industry regulations.
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements for real estate projects, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
- Support internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations for project financials.
- Coordinate with construction teams and contractors to ensure proper coding and documentation of project expenses.
- Maintain accurate records of project contracts, change orders, and amendments.
- Provide ad hoc financial reports and analyses to senior management as needed.
Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate development or construction accounting.
- Strong understanding of real estate project accounting, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking.
- Proficiency with accounting software (experience with Yardi, Sage 300, or similar real estate accounting software is a plus).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
- Knowledge of GAAP and industry regulations.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and external vendors.
- Strong problem-solving and analytic skills.
