We are currently partnered up with a Chemical Manufacturing Company in their search to add an EHS Engineer to the team. This position will report into the General Manager and will help oversee the 75 employee plant. The ideal candidate will have 2-5+ years of EHS experience in the Chemicals, Pharma, Automotive, or Food & Beverage industries. Description
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer - Chemicals will be responsible for the following:
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including air and water permits, hazardous waste management, and chemical handling requirements.
- Conduct environmental audits and inspections to identify areas for improvement.
- Maintain and update environmental permits and records, ensuring timely reporting to regulatory agencies (e.g., EPA, OSHA, local authorities).
- Develop and implement waste reduction, pollution prevention, and sustainability initiatives.
- Develop and enforce safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and other relevant standards.
- Conduct risk assessments and job hazard analyses for chemical handling and manufacturing operations.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Oversee emergency response planning, including chemical spill response, fire safety, and hazardous material handling.
- Train employees on proper safety procedures, including PPE usage, lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and chemical exposure mitigation.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA's Process Safety Management (PSM) standards for chemical manufacturing.
- Maintain and submit required EHS reports, such as Tier II reports, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), and air emission reports.
- Monitor workplace exposure to hazardous substances and implement necessary controls.
- Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility across the organization.
- Identify and implement best practices for workplace safety and environmental performance.
- Participate in internal and external audits and lead corrective action plans.
- Support management in setting EHS performance goals and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs).
Profile
The ideal Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer - Chemicals will have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Occupational Safety, or a related field.\
- 3-5+ years of experience in EHS roles within a chemical manufacturing, Pharma, Food & Beverage, or Automotive environment.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and NFPA regulations related to chemical manufacturing.
- Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM), Risk Management Plans (RMP), and hazardous chemical safety.
- Familiarity with industrial hygiene monitoring and exposure assessments.
- Proven ability to conduct incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Effective communication, training, and leadership skills.
- Certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) are a plus.
Job Offer
The successful Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer - Chemicals will be rewarded with the following:
- Base Salary of $80,000-$120,000 depending on experience
