Transportation and Logistics Manager
The Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire transportation process, from planning and scheduling shipments to managing carrier relationships and ensuring compliance with customer requirements. This position plays a key role in developing and implementing strategies to improve transportation efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall service quality. This requires a hands-on approach, with a focus on continuous improvement.
Client Details
My client is a national distributor of flexible packaging materials for the food, healthcare, and industrial sectors. They have been in business for several decades and service the entire US through eight distribution facilities. Additionally, they have launched a small custom manufacturing operation out of the Midwest to further service their customer's needs.
Description
- Develop and implement transportation strategies to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods, both inbound and outbound.
- Coordinate with internal departments and external partners to streamline shipping processes.
- Plan and schedule shipments based on customer orders and inventory levels.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers and other logistics service providers.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of vendors to ensure service quality and compliance with agreements.
- Oversee daily transportation operations, ensuring adherence to company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and manage transportation budgets, aiming to reduce costs while maintaining service quality.
- Implement and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to track and improve operational efficiency.
- Address and resolve transportation-related issues such as delays, damages, and discrepancies.
- Develop contingency plans to mitigate risks and handle unexpected disruptions in the supply chain.
- Lead and mentor 3 logistics analysts and engineers
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team skills and knowledge.
- Leverage transportation management systems (TMS) and other technologies to optimize routing, scheduling, and tracking.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to ensure the company remains competitive.
Profile
- Bachelors Degree required
- Additional certifications and/or education a plus
- Must have 5+ years of people management experience
- Must come from an onsite distribution or manufacturing environment
- Extensive knowledge and experience with all transportation functions: LTL, Parcel, Import/Export, Drayage
- Able to work onsite daily 1st shift in Montebello, CA area
Job Offer
- $90,000-$120,000 base salary range
- Quarterly bonus target
