The Director of Packaging Engineering will oversee end-to-end packaging development and innovation, from concept through commercialization. This leader will collaborate closely with Product Development, Creative, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to deliver packaging that elevates the brand, delights consumers, and meets cost, timing, and sustainability goals.

My client is a fast-growing, innovative cosmetics brand based in Los Angeles, dedicated to delivering high-performance, sustainably-minded products that inspire confidence and creativity. We're looking for a visionary Director of Packaging Engineering to lead the development of world-class packaging that blends function, beauty, and environmental responsibility.

Description

The responsibilities of the Director of Packaging Engineering for a cosmetic brand are

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all packaging engineering initiatives from concept through launch as an individual contributor.
  • Collaborate with Product Development and Creative teams to turn ideas into manufacturable solutions.
  • Oversee packaging feasibility, material selection, testing, tooling, and commercialization.
  • Partner with vendors and manufacturing partners to ensure quality and execution.
  • Drive sustainable packaging innovation and identify ways to reduce environmental impact.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and risk mitigation independently.
  • Serve as the go-to packaging expert, staying current on industry trends, materials, and emerging technologies.

Profile

A successful Director of Packaging Engineering candidate for the color cosmetic brand must have:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 8-10+ years of progressive packaging experience within cosmetics, beauty, or CPG; experience in prestige or luxury packaging a plus.
  • Proven ability to manage projects independently without a team.
  • Expertise in packaging materials (plastics, glass, metal, paperboard) and finishing techniques.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to balance creativity with technical feasibility and cost considerations.
  • Comfortable working onsite in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment (4 days/week) in LA.

Job Offer

The Director of Packaging Engineering candidate for the color cosmetic brand in Los Angeles, California will be offered:
