Estimator- Commercial Construction

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Commercial Construction Estimator to join our team in Portland, Oregon. The Estimator will play a critical role in accurately preparing cost estimates, budgets, and schedules for a variety of commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of construction processes, materials, and industry trends, with a focus on delivering competitive and precise project bids.

Description

  • Project Analysis and Cost Estimation

    • Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare detailed cost estimates.
    • Perform material take-offs and calculate labor, material, and equipment costs.
    • Identify and mitigate potential project risks through detailed analysis.
  • Bid Preparation

    • Develop and submit competitive project bids and proposals to clients.
    • Collaborate with project managers, architects, and clients to clarify scope and address questions.
    • Ensure all estimates adhere to client requirements and project timelines.
  • Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination

    • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to obtain competitive pricing.
    • Ensure subcontractor bids align with project scope and specifications.
  • Market Research and Cost Tracking

    • Stay updated on local market conditions, material pricing, and labor rates in the Portland area.
    • Maintain and update a database of costs for materials, labor, and equipment.
    • Monitor and report on industry trends and construction standards.
  • Collaboration and Communication

    • Work closely with the project management team to ensure seamless handoffs and accurate cost controls.
    • Participate in pre-construction meetings and provide input for cost-effective project solutions.
    • Communicate regularly with stakeholders to address changes and updates to project scopes or budgets.

Profile

  • Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
    • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator (CPE)) are a plus.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commercial construction estimating.
    • Proven track record of successful project estimations and bid submissions in the Portland, Oregon market.
    • Experience with estimating software (e.g., ProEst, Bluebeam, PlanSwift) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Skills:

    • Strong analytical and mathematical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
    • In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
    • Familiarity with Portland's local building codes, regulations, and permitting processes.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
