Controls Engineer - Industrial Manufacturing - Concord, NH
My client is looking for a Controls Engineer, responsible for developing customized automation solutions for high‑temperature process equipment. The position involves collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver advanced furnace systems that meet strict industry requirements while maintaining project timelines and engineering standards.

My client is a specialized manufacturer that designs and builds advanced high‑temperature furnace systems used in research and industrial applications. The organization is known for producing highly engineered, custom thermal equipment that supports demanding work in fields like aerospace, materials science, and semiconductor development
Description
In this role you will report directly into the Engineering Manager and be responsible for:
- Designing and implementing hardware and software control systems for high-temperature vacuum furnaces, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and embedded controllers to regulate temperature, pressure, and vacuum.
- Programming control software using Ladder Logic, Function Blocks, Structured Text, and VBA for precise process control and data logging.
- Integrating control systems with thermocouples, pressure sensors, vacuum pumps, gas delivery systems, and other specialized components.
- Designing industrial control panels-schematics, layouts, and BOMs-to NFPA-79 and UL 508 standards using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Conducting system testing, commissioning, and validation to ensure performance, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Troubleshooting and resolving system issues during design, manufacturing, and field deployment to minimize downtime.
- Optimizing control algorithms and thermal profiles to improve process stability, furnace performance, and product quality.
- Collaborating with mechanical engineers, thermal specialists, and project managers to align control systems with design and customer requirements.
- Preparing technical documentation, including test reports, operation manuals, and maintenance procedures.
- Supporting field installations, providing on-site or remote technical support, and training clients on furnace operation and control interfaces.
- Contributing to R&D initiatives to develop control solutions for next-generation vacuum furnace technologies.
Profile
A successful candidate will have:
- 5+ years of experience with controls engineering
- Thermal processing or OEM equipment experience preferred
- PLC programming and HMI/SCADA development proficiency
- Industrial communication protocol experience
- Electrical design software skills
- NFPA 79 & 86
- Motion control and PID tuning experience preferred
