Business Unit Controller- CPG- Chicago, IL
Reporting into the Director of Finance, this individual will be focused on overseeing the accounting & finance functions for one of their most profitable business units and the three entities that fall underneath its umbrella. The Business Unit Controller will also get involved in the oversight of the business units inventory processes, including labor and overhead absorption, inventory reconciliation, and inventory costing, while overseeing a team of two! This position has very high exposure to senior leadership, working directly alongside the Director of Finance and President. My client is looking for someone who has the eagerness to learn with an analytical/curious mindset and approach to the job, possesses strong leadership qualities, and has the ability to interact cross-functionally.

Description
Business Unit Controller Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with leadership to define departmental objectives and strategies, aligning with organizational goals.
- Oversee and manage monthly close processes, ensuring all tasks are completed on schedule and in accordance with GAAP, regulatory standards, and business requirements.
- Spearhead the preparation of monthly financial reports that deliver timely, accurate, and detailed insights to stakeholders, facilitating informed decision-making.
- Develop and maintain a 13-week cash flow model to optimize working capital management.
- Contribute to the creation of financial forecasts and annual budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and targets.
- Partner with the Operations team to track and manage large project budgets and costs throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of fixed asset costs and supporting documentation.
- Conduct thorough inventory reviews, including cost and overhead analysis, and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Lead efforts to streamline ERP enhancements, driving efficiencies and process improvements across the department and organization.
- Perform ad hoc financial analyses to support leadership in key decision-making processes.
- Supervise and guide the Senior Staff Accountant and Staff Accountant in daily accounting tasks, including vendor/customer management, journal entries, and month-end reconciliations.
- Demonstrate initiative and an entrepreneurial mindset in managing multiple brands, collaborating with leadership, and supporting new brand initiatives.
Profile
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance (or related field)
- CPA preferred
- 5+ years of experience in Accounting
- Experience in Inventory Accounting required
- Manufacturing/Consumer Goods industry experience required
- Strong Microsoft Excel knowledge
- Ample written and verbal communication skills
- NetSuite experience a plus
