Process Design Engineer - Chemical Manufacturing - Westport, CT

The Senior Process/Project Engineer will design, implement, and optimize chemical manufacturing systems, lead process improvements, and manage multiple engineering projects. This role requires expertise in chemical engineering principles and hands-on involvement in plant operations, safety, and environmental compliance.

Description

This Senior Process Design Engineer:

• Design and select process equipment and auxiliaries for new or revised systems.
• Implement process improvements through Engineering Change Notifications (ECNs).
• Prepare P&IDs, energy/material balances, and utility requirements.
• Troubleshoot operations and recommend improvements for safety and efficiency.
• Lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).
• Scale up R&D processes to full production systems.
• Train operators and maintain process documentation.
• Estimate project costs, manage installations, and monitor progress.
• Participate in safety committees and hazardous materials response team.

Profile

A successful Senior Process Engineer should have:

• BS or MS in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
• 10-20 years of experience in design, project, and process engineering in chemical plant operations and batch processing.
• Strong knowledge of heat transfer, fluid flow, mass transfer, distillation, reaction engineering, and liquid/liquid extraction.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work cross-functionally.
