My client is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Automation Engineer III to enhance manufacturing capabilities through the design, development, and optimization of automated systems. In this role, you will lead automation projects from concept to completion, supporting production efficiency, product quality, and continuous improvement initiatives across their manufacturing operations.

Description

The Automation Engineer III will report directly into the R&D Team Lead and be responsible for:

  • Design, develop, and implement automation systems and controls to support thermoforming and downstream manufacturing processes.
  • Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, robotics, vision systems, and other automation technologies.
  • Lead automation projects including equipment specification, integration, installation, and validation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Production, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering) to optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, user manuals, and change control records.
  • Support root cause analysis and implement corrective actions related to automation failures.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on increasing throughput, reducing downtime, and improving product quality.
  • Ensure automation systems comply with FDA regulations, ISO 13485, and internal quality standards.

Profile

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing automation, preferably within the medical device or highly regulated industries.
  • Advanced proficiency with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens preferred) and HMI development.
  • Experience with robotics integration (e.g., Fanuc, ABB, UR) and vision systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, sensor technologies, and industrial networking.
  • Familiarity with validation protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ) and documentation in regulated environments.
  • Excellent project management, troubleshooting, and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience is a plus.
