Assistant Project Manager - Wastewater Construction
We are seeking a proactive Assistant Project Manager to support planning and execution of wastewater treatment and conveyance projects in Knoxville, TN. This role assists with schedule, budget, and document control while coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, and field teams to ensure safe, high-quality delivery.

Our client is a specialized civil and utility contractor with a strong track record delivering municipal and industrial wastewater projects across East Tennessee. They prioritize safety, collaboration, and precision-bringing deep expertise in treatment plants, pump stations, and pipeline work.
Description
- Support the Project Manager with day-to-day coordination across treatment plants, pump stations, force mains, gravity sewer, and related site/civil scopes.
- Help develop and maintain project schedules (look-aheads), cost tracking, and procurement logs.
- Manage submittals, RFIs, change orders, meeting minutes, and progress photos with accurate document control.
- Coordinate materials/equipment procurement and delivery (pumps, valves, pipe, electrical gear, instrumentation).
- Assist with permitting and compliance documentation (e.g., TDEC/EPA requirements, erosion control, SWPPP).
- Review drawings/specs (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation/controls) for constructability; track redlines and as-builts.
- Support quality inspections, test plans, and startup/commissioning activities (pressure/leak testing, disinfection, equipment testing).
- Work with field leadership to plan work sequencing and maintain safety and traffic/site logistics.
- Prepare owner/engineer updates: pay applications, quantities, progress reports, and meeting agendas.
- Help identify risks early and support mitigation plans around schedule, budget, lead times, and field constraints.
Profile
The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, organized, and eager to learn the complexities of wastewater construction. They communicate clearly, thrive in a fast‑paced field-and-office environment, and build strong working relationships with crews, subcontractors, and engineers. Familiarity with wastewater processes, P&IDs, SCADA/I&C coordination, and heavy civil sequencing is a plus, alongside a strong commitment to safety, quality, and client service.
