Design Engineer II | NPI & Legacy | Sporting Goods
Client Details
The Organization is a privately held global firearms and defense manufacturer.
Description
- Develop innovative mechanical subsystem designs that align with performance requirements and cost goals.
- Produce and review drawings with functional dimensioning, appropriate GD&T application, and compliance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Perform statistical tolerance stack analyses; identify and document quality assurance points with respect to tolerancing and risk considerations.
- Conduct subsystem analyses using at least two tools such as FEA, motion analysis, CFD, or heat‑transfer modeling.
- Manage engineering changes through a PLM system, including part revisions, status updates, and disposition decisions.
- Create detailed test plans for new or modified designs; collaborate with technicians to execute tests and analyze results.
- Prepare technical reports summarizing test findings and recommend next steps.
- Lead or participate in design-for-manufacturability reviews with internal teams and external suppliers; propose cost‑reduction opportunities.
- Review supplier inspection data, assess nonconformances, and provide feedback to improve part quality.
- Support intellectual property activities, including patent searches, documentation, and trade studies.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and maintain 5S standards.
- Follow all safety protocols and adhere to applicable procedures in laboratory and range environments.
- Occasionally travel as required.
Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3-6 years of engineering experience in an R&D setting.
- Ability to perform moderately complex analysis (FEA, motion/kinematic studies, CFD, heat transfer, etc.).
- Experience with power transmission systems is beneficial.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Advanced CAD skills, including parametric modeling and detailed drawing creation; SolidWorks experience is preferred.
- Experience using PLM systems (such as Agile) is desirable.
- Strong understanding of ASME Y14.5, GD&T principles, and tolerance stack analysis; familiarity with tolerance‑analysis software is a plus.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, plastic and metal injection molding, stamping/fine blanking, extrusion, forging, casting, and related materials, treatments, and coatings.
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Experience with mechanical assembly techniques and the ability to troubleshoot using tools such as high‑speed video.
- Proven ability to work independently with limited guidance as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Experience with firearms or related mechanical products is helpful but not required.
Job Offer
