Rhode Island's GO-TO Commercial GC looking to bring on experienced Construction Superintendent with a strong background in complex ground-up projects within the Higher-Education, Healthcare, Life Sciences, and/or Multifamily markets.

Description

A construction site superintendent plays a crucial role in ensuring that construction projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to safety standards. Here are the key responsibilities of a construction site superintendent:

  1. Project Oversight and Coordination:

    • Manage the day-to-day operations of the construction site.
    • Coordinate the activities of contractors, subcontractors, and workers.
    • Ensure that construction schedules are followed and project deadlines are met.
  2. Safety Management:

    • Enforce safety regulations and ensure compliance with OSHA standards.
    • Conduct regular safety inspections and address any hazards or safety concerns.
    • Promote a culture of safety and provide safety training to workers.
  3. Quality Control:

    • Monitor the quality of work to ensure it meets project specifications and industry standards.
    • Address any construction defects or issues promptly and efficiently.
    • Coordinate inspections and approvals from relevant authorities.
  4. Budget and Resource Management:

    • Oversee the proper use of materials, equipment, and labor to avoid waste and stay within budget.
    • Track costs and report on financial progress, ensuring that the project remains within budget.
  5. Communication and Reporting:

    • Serve as the primary point of contact between the contractor, project manager, client, and other stakeholders.
    • Provide regular updates on project status, progress, and any issues that arise.
    • Document daily activities, including work performed, materials used, and incidents or delays.
  6. Scheduling:

    • Develop and manage the project schedule, ensuring that tasks are completed on time.
    • Address any delays or scheduling conflicts, coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers.
  7. Problem Solving and Conflict Resolution:

    • Address and resolve any issues that arise on the construction site, including disputes among workers or with subcontractors.
    • Find solutions to unexpected challenges or changes in the project scope.
  8. Compliance and Documentation:

    • Ensure the project complies with local building codes, zoning laws, and environmental regulations.
    • Maintain accurate project records, including permits, inspection reports, and change orders.
  9. Team Leadership:

    • Lead and supervise the construction crew, providing guidance, motivation, and conflict resolution.
    • Ensure that the workers adhere to the project timeline, work quality standards, and safety guidelines.
  10. Equipment and Material Management:

    • Ensure that all required materials and equipment are available and used efficiently.
    • Monitor the storage and handling of materials to prevent damage or theft.

A construction site superintendent must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining effective communication with all involved parties.

Profile

  • 7-10+ years of experience as a Superintendent (in Commercial ground-up construction preferred)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • OSHA Certified - CSL Certification preferred.
  • Experience working on projects valued at $10M+ or more.
