Process Engineer - Electrodes Coating - Hamden, CT
Develop and implement process specifications for new materials in roll-to-roll coating and converting operations. Lead process commissioning, start-up, and training during technology transfer to manufacturing teams.

My client is a global leader in clean energy and advanced manufacturing, specializing in innovative solutions for industrial and sustainable technologies. As they expand operations, my client is seeking a skilled Process Engineer with expertise in roll-to-roll coating and converting processes to support the development and optimization of high-performance materials.
Description
- Develop and implement process specifications for new materials in roll-to-roll coating and converting operations.
- Lead process commissioning, start-up, and training during technology transfer to manufacturing teams.
- Troubleshoot and solve engineering challenges related to coatings, polymers, and material properties.
- Optimize process parameters to enhance product performance, yield, and throughput.
- Conduct data analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), and Statistical Process Control (SPC) to drive continuous improvement.
- Establish and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers and production staff.
- Collaborate with R&D and manufacturing teams to ensure a seamless scale-up of new products.
- Communicate project updates and technical findings to stakeholders and senior management.
Profile
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with 3-10 years of experience in roll-to-roll coating/converting.
- Hands-on expertise with coating techniques such as slot die, gravure, reverse gravure, and ultrasonic spray.
- Strong knowledge of web handling equipment (winders, slitters, laminators, tension transducers, and surface treaters).
- Experience in thin-film coatings, polymer membranes, and specialty material processing.
- Proficiency in root cause analysis, process optimization, and failure mode analysis (FMEA).
- Ability to interpret complex process data, propose hypotheses, and develop engineering solutions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with cross-functional teams.
