Quality Engineer - Itasca, IL | Automotive
For over 50 years, our client has been a reliable supplier of plated fasteners to the automotive industry, proudly serving leading manufacturers like GM, Ford, Chrysler, and others. They are currently looking to add a Quality Engineer to their team. This position involves maintaining exceptional product quality and performance standards, promoting innovation, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Established in 1978, the company started as a zinc plating specialist with a team of just four employees. Over the past 30 years, it has experienced remarkable growth, expanding its workforce and diversifying its offerings to include heat treating, induction hardening, and sorting, all while maintaining a strong emphasis on the automotive fastener market.
The perfect candidate for this position will play a key role in upholding the company's commitment to exceptional product quality. Key responsibilities include overseeing quality assurance processes, conducting inspections, and implementing quality control measures throughout the production lifecycle.
Description
The Quality Engineer will be responsible for the following:
- Oversee internal Corrective Actions, including assigning tasks, tracking progress, and conducting verification audits for Internal CARs from audits and external corrective actions (8-D's).
- Manage customer returns, including samples, corrective actions, and coordinating with relevant departments.
- Lead root cause corrective actions in the 8-D format, ensuring thorough and professional documentation of results and communication with customers.
- Collaborate with department heads to assist in writing procedures and work instructions.
- Assist in writing and revising control plans, flow diagrams, and PFMEAs for the company.
- Apply a strong understanding of technical and industry specifications (IATF 16949), managing the documentation of company and customer specifications.
- Oversee all customer certification requests related to processing and accreditation certifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Profile
A Successful Quality Engineer will have the following:
- Experience working in an automotive manufacturing setting with understanding of IATF industry standards
- 2+ years of experience in Quality Assurance, ideally within plating and/or heat treating industries.
- Skilled in the corrective actions process and applying fundamental problem-solving techniques.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications for report generation and data analysis (e.g., creating graphs).
- Hands-on experience in writing procedures and work instructions.
- Solid understanding of APQP and PPAP processes, with specific expertise in Level 3.
