Estimator - Underground Utilities
The successful Estimator prepares timely and accurate bid estimates for medium to large sized projects/programs within an assigned line of business, Region or Division and helps plan all projects with expectations for the efficient use of personnel, equipment, materials and subcontractors within contract requirements, time guidelines and other restrictions.

My client is is an industry-leading utility construction firm providing critical infrastructure construction and maintenance services for the power, oil & gas pipeline, gas distribution, and communication markets throughout North America.
Description
- Attend the pre-construction meeting and perform material and labor take-offs/evaluations for estimate preparation.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and complete prior to deadlines.
- Obtain vendor and subcontractor quotes and evaluate for completeness and best price for use in bid
- Distribute qualification documents as required for the bid (MBE, WBE, experience, key individuals, etc.)
- Provide peer check assistance to estimators, project managers and others as required
- Maintain up to date bid list on SharePoint
- Upload project documents to ShareFile and/or SmartSync for vendors/subcontractors
- Review all contract documents to become familiar with project requirements and obligations under the contract and apply to pricing (schedule, specifications, drawings, safety manual, etc.), reviewing documents for accuracy and consistency.
- Attend project meetings as needed; assist construction personnel at the onset of the project life-cycle in tracking and understanding basis and approach to the cost estimate.
Profile
- Must have Gas Distribution experience or Underground Electrical Utilities Experience
- BS degree in Construction Management, Engineering, related field or equivalent work experience.
- Experience in estimating mid-scale projects and advanced knowledge of construction and utility industry practices
- Experience with computerized bidding software and proficiency in MS Office applications
- Completion of company training and some formal Project Management coursework
- Complex problem-solving skills
