Senior Electrical Estimator
Client Details
Our client is a respected electrical subcontractor specializing in commercial construction across the Chicagoland area, with a strong reputation for high‑quality installations and long‑term customer relationships. Their work spans a broad range of project types, including:
- Commercial buildings such as office spaces, medical facilities, retail centers, and educational institutions
- Light industrial environments like distribution centers, manufacturing plants, and logistics facilities
- Solar and renewable energy projects including rooftop solar, ground‑mount arrays, and integrated solar systems
Description
- Prepare accurate and competitive electrical estimates for commercial, light industrial, and solar construction projects
- Review drawings, specifications, and project documents to determine scope
- Develop detailed quantity takeoffs and material/labor cost breakdowns
- Coordinate with project managers and field supervisors to ensure accuracy of assumptions
- Solicit and evaluate vendor/subcontractor pricing
- Assist in the preparation of bid proposals, schedules, and value‑engineering recommendations
- Participate in pre‑bid meetings and job walks
- Identify cost‑saving opportunities and project risks
- Maintain a strong understanding of market pricing, labor rates, and industry trends
- Support handoff to project management teams after award
Profile
- 3-7+ years of experience in electrical estimating for construction projects
- Strong background in commercial electrical construction required; light industrial and/or solar experience is a plus
- Proficiency with estimating software and digital takeoff tools
- Solid understanding of NEC standards, electrical systems, and installation methods
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documents
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and communication skills
- Ability to multitask and manage tight bid deadlines
- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
