Metallurgical Engineer - Materials - Lawrence, MA
This role supports hands‑on metallurgical and materials engineering work within a specialized metal‑treatment environment, contributing to process development, testing, and customer applications.

Our client is a long‑established, privately owned materials‑engineering company known for its proprietary boron‑diffusion surface treatments used in demanding aerospace and oil & gas applications.
Description
This Metallurgical Engineer will:
- Support and develop proprietary metal‑treatment and coating processes
- Assist with metallurgical testing, hardness evaluations, metallography, and failure analysis
- Work directly with customers on applications, technical questions, and problem‑solving
- Participate in new process development and continuous improvement
- Learn and support furnace operations, process controls, and inspection methods
- Contribute to production support, quality investigations, and workflow improvements

Profile
A successful Metallurgical Engineer should have:
- 3-10 years of experience in metallurgy, materials engineering, heat treating, coating processes, or a materials testing lab.
- Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or Mechanical Engineering with materials‑related industry experience.
- Hands‑on engineer who thrives in a small business, wears multiple hats, and proactively takes on new responsibilities.
- Comfortable with metallography, hardness testing, failure analysis, or general materials characterization.
- Experience or familiarity with furnace equipment, furnace controls, or thermal processing environments.
- Exposure to aerospace and/or oil & gas industries is a strong plus.
- Knowledge of Inconel 718, ISO 9000, AS9100, or similar quality standards is beneficia
