Client Details

My client is a leading construction firm specializing in storage units among many other projects. They are seeking a leader in accounting to join the team and work alongisde the President. The ideal candidate will bring experience in accounting within the construction industry, demonstrating a deep understanding of construction-specific financial practices and regulations. This role will oversee the accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective financial management.

Description

  • Financial Oversight: Lead and manage all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and project costing. Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting principles and standards.

  • Project Accounting: Oversee project-specific accounting, including cost tracking, budget management, and financial forecasting. Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate project cost reporting and profitability analysis.

  • Budget Management: Develop, implement, and monitor departmental budgets. Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management to support strategic decision-making and cost control.

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports. Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant construction industry regulations.

  • Internal Controls: Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity. Conduct regular audits and implement improvements to accounting processes.

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team. Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Provide guidance and support to accounting staff, including performance evaluations and professional development.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on relevant accounting standards, tax laws, and construction industry regulations. Ensure compliance with all financial and regulatory requirements.

  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements within the accounting function. Implement best practices and technological solutions to streamline accounting operations.

Profile

  • Experience: Individual will bring years of progressive accounting experience within the construction industry

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA certification or equivalent professional designation is a plus but not necessary.

  • Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of construction accounting practices, including job costing, contract management, and project financials.
    • Proficiency in accounting software and systems, with experience in [specific software, e.g., Sage 300, Procore].
    • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong leadership abilities with a proven track record of managing and developing accounting teams.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with senior management and project stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial reporting and analysis.

  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and evolving environment, managing multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
