Battery Industry - Controls Engineer - Westford, MA
The Controls Engineer will collaborate with a skilled team to design, implement, and troubleshoot control systems for custom equipment, focusing on hardware selection, software development, and SCADA architecture. They will work closely with mechanical design and process development engineers to ensure robust system design and contribute to the development of efficient manufacturing machinery and operational processes.

Description
Responsibilities:
- Develop and program PLC systems for automation and control solutions.
- Configure and implement SCADA systems to monitor and support technological advancements.
- Design HMIs to facilitate R&D and process development across the site.
- Collaborate with process and design engineers to gather requirements and define system specifications.
- Create control strategies to optimize production processes and enhance the efficiency of advanced manufacturing equipment.
- Work closely with external vendors to ensure alignment of control development strategies.
- Conduct thorough testing and validation of control systems to guarantee reliability and functionality.
- Provide technical troubleshooting and support for operational equipment.
- Participate in the commissioning and startup of both internal and external projects.
- Document control system designs, configurations, and operational procedures.
- Support SQL database systems for effective data storage and retrieval in manufacturing and development processes.
- Utilize Python or other relevant software for scripting, data analysis, and process automation tasks.
Profile
Ideal Candidate:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience with industrial controls and automation systems.
- Strong understanding of industrial control networks and field devices, including PLCs, HMIs, power supplies, drives, sensors, and actuators.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, and Ethernet/IP.
- Proficient in SCADA software platforms, with Ignition experience preferred.
- Experience in HMI development and interface design.
- Familiar with regulatory standards and safety protocols in industrial automation.
- Proven track record of solving real-world challenges with technical solutions.
- Skilled in working with vendors and utilizing remote technical support effectively.
- Experience in generating, modifying, or referencing electrical schematics for equipment.
- Hands-on experience with SQL databases for managing data storage and retrieval.
- Proficiency in Python programming for scripting, automation, and data analysis tasks.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with great attention to detail.
- Ability to work autonomously or collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with both internal teams and external partners.
