QC Manager - Underground Utility Projects - NoVa

Description

The QC Manager - Underground Utility Projects - NoVa will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring all projects comply with company standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, NEC, NESC)
  • Conducting site inspections and audits to verify accuracy, safety, and quality of dry utility installations (power, telecom, gas)
  • Leading and managing a team of 8+ field staff, providing coaching, oversight, and support to uphold quality standards
  • Coordinating with project managers, foremen, and subcontractors to identify quality issues and implement corrective actions
  • Developing and maintaining quality control documentation, checklists, inspection reports, and compliance records
  • Reviewing construction drawings, plans, and specifications to confirm alignment with design intent
  • Training field crews and supervisors on installation best practices, safety procedures, and quality requirements
  • Monitoring materials and equipment for conformance with submittals and industry standards before use on site
  • Leading root cause analysis and driving continuous improvement efforts to reduce rework and increase field efficiency
  • Supporting project close-out by managing final inspections, as-built documentation, and quality sign-offs
  • Communicating regularly with internal teams, clients, and inspectors to maintain transparency and trust
  • Contributing to the development and refinement of company-wide quality control processes and procedures

Profile

The QC Manager - Underground Utility Projects - NoVa will have:

  • 5-15 years of experience in construction quality control, preferably within underground utility installation (dry utilities: power, telecom, gas)
  • Proven experience leading or overseeing field teams (managing 5+ team members preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of relevant construction regulations and standards, including OSHA, NEC, and NESC
  • Experience conducting site inspections, audits, and QA/QC reporting across active construction projects
  • Familiarity with trenchless installation methods and large-scale infrastructure projects is a plus
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications with high attention to detail
  • Demonstrated success implementing corrective actions, training teams, and promoting field-level compliance
  • Experience developing and maintaining quality documentation, checklists, and inspection records
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across project management, field, and client teams
  • Skilled in root cause analysis and driving continuous improvement initiatives in fast-paced environments
  • Comfortable supporting project close-out processes, including final inspections and quality documentation
  • Self-starter with a collaborative mindset, eager to contribute to growing and refining company-wide quality systems
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field preferred but not required
