Chief Estimator

A civil estimator is a construction worker whose duties are to bid on construction projects, assess project budgets, and work closely with management to determine how best to pursue a civil engineering project. These projects can include bridge building, highway construction, or rail construction.

Client Details

The client is a heavy civil construction contractor. Some of their work includes underground pipe installs, pump stations, tunneling, and trenching to name a few. They have a strong established relationship in the market and do work across multiple states. The company has been in business since 1980 and many of their employees have been with the company for 20+ years. This is due to a great culture and work life balance which is led by the owner who is very well respected.

Description

The estimator will:

• prepare bids for a variety of different utility projects. ranging from $1 million up to $20 million.
• procure and negotiate material pricing and subcontractors.
• coordinate cost-progress targets with production rates.
• prepare detailed cost analyses for material, equipment and labor.
• develop, monitor and update progress schedules with Microsoft Project and Primavera P6.

Profile

The successful candidate:

• will have a degree in either engineering, civil would be ideal.
• minimum of 5 years of estimating experience in the heavy construction industry.
• must be proficient with MS Office, and strong written and verbal skills.
• need to be able to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
• will be skilled at preparing detailed cost analyses.
• unit price contracting is an essential responsibility.
• have strong organization skills to be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
