Job Requirements of Estimator:
Experience: 5+ years of estimating experience with a commercial general contractor; background in office and retail renovations/fit-outs is strongly preferred.Technical Knowledge: Ability to interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings, as well as specifications and conceptual design documents.
Preconstruction Skills: Skilled in preparing conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, and value engineering options to support project planning.
Process Ownership: Capable of taking an estimate from early-stage documents through full client-ready submission with minimal oversight.
Software/Technology: Proficiency with standard estimating software, Excel, and familiarity with industry platforms (experience with BuildingConnected is a plus).
Subcontractor Relations: Proven ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with subcontractors, solicit competitive bids, and evaluate proposals effectively.
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across project teams and present estimates confidently to leadership.
Organization: Excellent time management skills, able to manage multiple estimates and deadlines in a high-volume bidding environment.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered.

Estimator
A well-established commercial contractor in Northern NJ is seeking an Estimator to join its growing team. This role will support preconstruction and estimating efforts across office and retail renovations, corporate interiors, and other commercial projects.
Client Details
Privately held, full-service general contractor with 25+ years in business. Known for a hands-on leadership style, repeat clients, and a strong reputation across the NY/NJ metro area. Currently targeting $30M in revenue this year with growth plans to exceed $100M over the next three years.
Description
- Prepare detailed estimates for office and retail renovations, corporate interiors, and other commercial projects
- Review conceptual documents and provide accurate early-stage budgets
- Develop and maintain subcontractor relationships; solicit and review bids
- Work closely with the Director of Estimating to finalize proposals and submissions
- Assist with value engineering and cost modeling during preconstruction phases

Profile
A successful Estimator should have:
- 4+ years estimating experience with a commercial GC (office/retail fit-outs highly preferred)
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural and engineering drawings
- Strong ability to carry estimates from conceptual through client-ready submission
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple bids in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with project stakeholders
