Description

Position Overview: We are looking for an experienced Long Island based Superintendent - Retail and Healthcare Construction to manage the day-to-day operations of retail or healthcare construction projects across Long Island. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of construction processes, and experience working on complex retail or healthcare projects. As a Superintendent, you will be responsible for overseeing all site activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Oversight: Oversee all daily operations on retail or healthcare construction sites, ensuring the project is completed according to the approved plans, specifications, and building codes.
  • Team Supervision: Lead and manage subcontractors, trades, and labor crews on-site. Coordinate with project managers and subcontractors to ensure tasks are completed according to the project schedule.
  • Scheduling & Coordination: Develop and maintain construction schedules, ensuring that milestones are met. Communicate regularly with the project manager and subcontractors to ensure timely project delivery and resolve any scheduling conflicts.
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce safety procedures on-site to ensure a safe working environment. Conduct daily safety meetings, inspections, and ensure all activities are compliant with OSHA standards and other applicable safety regulations.
  • Quality Control: Conduct regular inspections to ensure the quality of work meets the company's standards and project specifications. Address any issues related to construction quality or compliance immediately.
  • Client Communication: Maintain regular communication with the project manager, clients, and stakeholders. Address any concerns or questions and ensure that the client is informed of project status and progress.
  • Problem Solving: Quickly identify and resolve on-site issues, such as design changes, material shortages, or unforeseen site conditions. Work with the project team to implement solutions.
  • Resource Management: Ensure that all necessary materials, tools, and equipment are available and utilized efficiently on-site. Manage inventory and coordinate deliveries to avoid delays.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate daily reports, safety logs, time sheets, and other documentation. Report regularly to the project manager on project progress, issues, and solutions.
  • Project Closeout: Manage the project's closeout phase, including inspections, punch lists, and final documentation. Ensure all project components are completed to the client's satisfaction.

Profile

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Superintendent in retail or healthcare construction. Experience managing large-scale or complex projects in either sector is strongly preferred.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is a plus. OSHA 30-hour certification required.
  • Industry Knowledge:
    • Strong understanding of construction processes, methods, and building codes specific to retail or healthcare construction.
    • Familiarity with industry-specific regulations (e.g., healthcare facility requirements, ADA compliance).
    • Experience in managing tenant improvements, renovations, and new builds.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and contract documents.
    • Ability to use project management software and scheduling tools (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, Microsoft Project).
  • Leadership: Proven leadership abilities with the capacity to motivate and manage subcontractors and construction teams. Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with clients, subcontractors, project managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail in monitoring and ensuring the quality of construction work, safety protocols, and project timelines.
