Value Stream Manager | Tempering

A leading manufacturer of specialty glass products is seeking an experienced Value Stream Manager to oversee 24/7 operations in a high-volume production environment. The role is focused on managing tempering and grinding lines, leading continuous improvement initiatives, and driving safety, quality, and operational performance in alignment with corporate objectives.

Description

• Provide strategic and hands-on leadership to a large production team (70+ personnel) across multiple shifts.

• Lead plant operations in a high-temperature, safety-critical environment with a focus on glass strengthening processes (tempering).

• Drive compliance with environmental, safety, and quality standards, including OSHA and ISO certifications.

• Monitor and manage departmental budgets (~$30M) and capital projects.

• Oversee performance metrics related to output, uptime, labor utilization, and customer satisfaction.

• Implement Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement strategies to enhance productivity and reduce waste.

• Support enterprise-wide transformation efforts through digitalization, standardization, and cross-functional collaboration.

• Ensure effective training, coaching, and development of frontline supervisors, engineers, and technicians.

• Serve as a key contributor in long-range planning, process engineering, and asset management (>$80M in equipment value).

• Collaborate with customer service, quality, and maintenance teams to ensure operational alignment and product integrity.

Profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline required.

• Minimum 6-10 years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations, preferably in glass, metals, or a similar high-heat process industry.

• Strong background in plant leadership, safety programs, and production oversight.

• Proven experience managing large teams in 24/7 environments.

• Knowledge of tempering, grinding, or thermal treatment processes is highly desirable.

• Proficiency in Lean tools, Six Sigma, and enterprise excellence methodologies.

• Strong communication, decision-making, and change leadership skills.
