Senior Project Engineer - Chemicals - Litchfield, CT
My client is seeking a results-driven, innovative, and self-motivated Senior Project Engineer to join their team. In this role, you'll lead the development and execution of high-impact capital projects that support business growth, operational excellence, safety, and product quality.

The company serves global markets including medical devices, electronics, automotive, and aerospace, helping customers improve efficiency, reliability, and speed in their manufacturing processes.
Description
The main responsibilities for the Senior Project Engineer include:
- Drive project feasibility by leading scope development, FMEA, process mapping, system specifications, conceptual estimates, business case presentations, and project charters.
- Execute safe, high-quality projects through the creation of P&IDs, layout drawings, component specifications, and automation descriptions, while overseeing construction and installation.
- Apply engineering knowledge in fluid dynamics, heat transfer, process control, and unit operations, collaborating with mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, and regulatory experts.
- Plan and manage capital resources by forecasting facility and equipment needs, analyzing bids, coordinating with vendors, and controlling project budgets, timelines, and forecasts.
- Ensure strong stakeholder alignment through staged reviews, business case advocacy, commissioning, and project close-out activities.
- Promote innovation by staying current on equipment, systems, and industry best practices, and by sharing knowledge across the organization.
Profile
The successful Senior Project Engineer will have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in chemical manufacturing, capital project development, and process engineering.
- PMP certification preferred.
- Strong background in pumping systems, agitation, piping and vessel design, process safety, instrumentation, and conceptual automation.
- Experience with AutoCAD is preferred
- In-depth knowledge of building codes, OSHA, and safety regulations for both construction and general industry.
- Proven experience managing projects in a Process Safety-regulated facility.
