Senior Staff Attorney, Youth Defense

The Senior Staff Attorney, Youth Defense will provide dedicated legal representation to individuals, ensuring their rights are upheld in all legal matters. This role is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the not-for-profit sector while working in a collaborative legal environment.

Description

  • Represent clients in Family Court and related proceedings.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of attorneys, social workers, investigators, and paralegals.
  • Supervise one or two staff attorneys, including performance reviews and mentoring.
  • Contribute to practice development through training, case strategy meetings, and creation of legal resources.
  • Maintain accurate case data and assist with reporting for funders.
  • Participate in community outreach and 'Know Your Rights' presentations.

Profile

A successful Senior Staff Attorney, Youth Defense should have:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience representing clients in juvenile delinquency, Youth Part, or related criminal defense matters (including hearings, trials, and dispositions).
  • Strong litigation skills and ability to manage a high-volume caseload.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; collaborative team player.
  • Commitment to racial and social justice.
  • Bilingual (Spanish or other language) strongly preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience is a plus.
