We are working with a Packaging Manufacturing company in their search to add a Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to the team due to growth. This position will cover the 300 employee site and report up into the Director of EHS. The ideal candidate will have 5+ year of EHS experience ideally within a Manufacturing setting. Description
The Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist - Packaging Manufacturing will be responsible for the following:
- Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs, policies, and procedures in accordance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations
- Conduct and oversee risk assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), ergonomic evaluations, and incident investigations
- Lead root cause analysis and drive corrective/preventive actions for safety and environmental incidents
- Manage safety data sheets (SDS), chemical inventory, and hazardous materials programs
- Facilitate employee safety training, toolbox talks, and safety committee meetings
- Monitor and ensure proper use of PPE, machine guarding, and other safety controls
- Conduct internal audits and support external regulatory inspections and audits
- Track and report key EHS performance metrics (e.g., TRIR, near misses, waste generation)
- Ensure compliance with air, water, and waste regulations; support environmental permitting and reporting (e.g., Tier II, TRI, SPCC)
- Serve as the site's subject matter expert for EHS best practices and compliance requirements
- Support sustainability initiatives and continuous improvement projects related to energy efficiency, waste reduction, and recycling
Profile
The ideal Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist - Packaging Manufacturing will have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in packaging, plastics, or consumer goods
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state environmental/safety regulations
- Proven experience conducting safety training, risk assessments, and regulatory reporting
- Professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM, ASP, OSHA 30/40-Hour)
- Experience with ISO 14001 or OHSAS/ISO 45001 management systems
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies as they relate to EHS
- Emergency response and first-aid/CPR certified
Job Offer
The Successful Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist - Packaging Manufacturing will be rewarded with the following:
- Base Salary of $90,000-$130,000 depending on experience
