Sales Engineer - Metal Components for Automotive

$120,000 - $140,000/Year

We are seeking a highly skilled Sales Engineer with deep expertise in cold-headed metal components, particularly in the manufacturing of nuts, bolts, screws, and related fasteners. The Sales Engineer will will serve as a key technical resource to both our internal sales team and our customers.

Client Details

Our client is an international manufacturer and distributor of fastener components for the automotive industry, based just outside of Chicago.

Description

  • Act as the technical liaison between the engineering/manufacturing team and the outside sales force.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations on engineering specifications, materials, tolerances, and design constraints for custom fasteners and cold-headed parts.
  • Interpret complex or uncommon automotive and industrial standards and apply them to customer requirements and applications.
  • Support outside sales representatives by joining customer meetings and providing technical expertise and troubleshooting.
  • Assist customers in refining specifications when details are incomplete or unclear; recommend appropriate design or material modifications.
  • Collaborate with product development, quality, and manufacturing teams to ensure feasibility and alignment with production capabilities.
  • Utilize CAD and other engineering software tools to create or review drawings and assist in prototype development.
  • Stay informed on changes in relevant standards (e.g., ISO, ASTM, SAE) and industry trends affecting cold-formed fasteners.
  • Prepare technical documentation, specifications, and customer-facing materials as needed.

Profile

  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in manufacturing or engineering of cold-headed parts (fasteners, screws, bolts, nuts, etc.).
  • Deep understanding of automotive and industrial fastener standards and the ability to interpret and apply them in real-world applications.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working directly with customers, sales teams, or in a cross-functional environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred; equivalent industry experience considered.

Job Offer

  • $130,000 - $140,000 base + bonus
