Principal Electrical Engineer - Optics - Bedford, NH
Client Details
The organization operates in a specialized engineering environment developing advanced electronic and optical solutions for defense and related high‑reliability applications. Its teams work across multiple disciplines in a fast‑paced setting where hands‑on development and problem solving are central to success.
Description
The position will report directly into the Engineering Manager and be responsible for
- Collaborating across all stages of system development, from architecture through detailed design and integration
- Working within multi‑disciplinary teams that include mechanical, optical, software, and systems engineering
- Supporting design evaluation through simulation, prototyping, testing, and requirement verification
- Creating schematic designs including power supplies, embedded interfaces, and size‑weight‑power trade considerations
- Contributing to layout activities such as component placement, routing strategies, and documentation for procurement
- Troubleshooting design issues and resolving failure modes through structured analysis
- Supporting production and manufacturing activities as needed during system build and test
- Participating in customer program reviews and preparing technical updates
Profile
The successful candidate will have:
- A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and 10 or more years of relevant technical experience
- Experience with schematic design, system integration, debugging, and electrical testing
- Power systems, communication interfaces, or electro‑optical hardware skills
- Experience designing for rugged or military operating environments
- Test equipment hands‑on troubleshooting familiarity
- Experience preparing documentation, presentations, or customer‑facing communication
- Strong organization skills with the ability to work across suppliers, customers, and internal teams
- The ability to travel occasionally to support testing or design reviews
