Manufacturing - R&D Controls Engineer - Bedford, NH
The Controls Engineer is responsible for research, design, development, and support of mechanical systems, components, and processes. The Mechanical Engineer applies advanced engineering principles to solve complex technical challenges, drive product improvements, and ensure manufacturing efficiency. Working under general supervision, this role requires strong technical judgment, cross-functional collaboration, and a proactive approach to innovation.

Description
Responsibilities:
- Apply advanced engineering and scientific principles to evaluate feasibility and develop solutions for complex technical challenges.
- Lead or contribute as a technical expert on projects, ensuring timely completion of deliverables.
- Design and develop new test methods, specifications, technical apparatus, software, and manufacturing processes.
- Perform design evaluations, data analysis, and trade-off studies to optimize performance and reliability.
- Lead or support CAPA investigations and complaint resolutions.
- Author design documentation and support design control activities.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across cross-functional teams.
- Ensure compliance with company quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation initiatives across engineering functions
Profile
Ideal Candidate:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
- 5-7 years of experience in machine design, build, installation, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD Electrical).
- Skilled in PLC programming (RSLogix 5000, RSLogix 500) and familiar with Allen-Bradley control systems (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix, Kinetix, PowerFlex).
- Experienced with HMI development using FactoryTalk View Studio.
- Knowledge of SCADA systems, data collection, and process automation.
- Strong background in analog/digital circuit design, power distribution, and embedded systems.
- Hands-on experience with electrical panel design, wiring, and machine assembly.
- Certified in NFPA 70E Electrical Safety; understanding of UL, IEC, and IEEE standards.
- Experience with PID tuning for components such as heaters, load cells, and pneumatic valves.
- Preferred: exposure to web converting, continuous extrusion, injection molding, or thermoplastics processing.
