The Outside Sales Account Manager will be based in Sacramento, CA, and will build strong relationships, drive sales, and provide advanced solutions to customers in industries such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, environmental, and academic research. The Outside Sales Account Manager will be responsible for growing sales, managing accounts, and identifying new business for high-performance analytical instruments used in lab and research settings.

Our client is a market leader in the analytical instrumentation space, headquartered in Rhode Island. They manufacture meters, controllers, titrators, and other instruments for the food, beverage, water, and industrial industries.

Description

The Outside Sales Account Manager will:

  • Develop and execute a sales strategy to achieve and exceed sales targets within the assigned territory (Sacramento and surrounding regions).
  • Identify and target new business opportunities in academic, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, environmental, and industrial sectors.
  • Drive the sales process from prospecting and qualifying leads to closing deals, ensuring a full understanding of customer requirements and delivering tailored solutions.
  • Present and demonstrate the company's portfolio of analytical instrumentation products to prospective and existing clients.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of existing customer accounts, providing ongoing support to ensure customer satisfaction and maximize retention.
  • Cultivate long-term relationships with key decision-makers and influencers within customer organizations, becoming a trusted advisor for their analytical instrumentation needs.
  • Regularly visit customer sites to provide on-site demonstrations, technical support, and consultations, identifying additional sales opportunities.
  • Respond to customer inquiries, resolve product or service issues, and coordinate with technical teams to ensure prompt and effective solutions.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the analytical instrumentation products offered by the company, including technical specifications, capabilities, and applications.
  • Collaborate with product specialists and applications engineers to ensure the correct solutions are proposed to meet customer needs.
  • Leverage knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and customer pain points to position products effectively and drive new sales.
  • Work closely with the internal sales, technical, and customer service teams to ensure smooth project implementation and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide regular updates and forecasts to the sales management team, reporting on pipeline activity, key wins, and potential challenges.
  • Support marketing efforts by providing customer insights, feedback on promotional materials, and participating in events or webinars as needed.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, competitive landscape, and technological advancements in analytical instrumentation.
  • Monitor competitors' offerings and pricing strategies, adjusting sales approaches to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Attend industry conferences, trade shows, and customer events to network, gather market intelligence, and stay connected with key industry players.
  • Utilize the company's CRM system to track sales activity, manage customer relationships, and maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Provide regular reports on sales performance, progress against targets, customer interactions, and market trends.

Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of sales experience in analytical instrumentation or related fields, with a proven track record of achieving sales targets.
  • Strong technical knowledge of analytical instruments, such as chromatography systems (HPLC, GC), spectrometers (UV-Vis, IR, NMR), and other lab equipment used for qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively present complex technical information in a clear and compelling way.
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and comfortable working independently in the field while managing multiple customer accounts.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a sales pipeline effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM tools (Salesforce, HubSpot, etc.).
