Assistant Controller
Client Details
The client is a New York-based, privately held leader in licensed apparel, designing and manufacturing branded clothing for men, women, and children across mass market, department, specialty, and e‑commerce retailers. The business partners with major entertainment, sports, and lifestyle brands, operating a high‑volume wholesale and licensing model that emphasizes trend‑driven design, scalable production, and long‑term brand relationships.Description
The key responsibilities for the Assistant Controller role:
- Support the month-end close process, ensuring timely, accurate financial reporting
- Prepare and maintain balance sheet and P&L support schedules
- Perform account reconciliations, investigate variances, and ensure overall general ledger accuracy
- Review and prepare journal entries with proper documentation and accounting compliance
- Assist with oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities
- Review, approve, and code vendor invoices, ensuring correct posting periods and account classifications
- Monitor licensing revenue invoicing and collections, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Support external audits (financial, tax, and lender-related) and maintain audit-ready documentation
- Help develop, document, and improve accounting procedures and internal controls
- Perform monthly reporting and analysis, including expense and GL review
- Provide cross-functional and ad hoc support on special finance and accounting projects
Profile
A successful candidate for the Assistant Controller role is a hands‑on, detail‑driven accounting professional with strong experience in general ledger accounting, month‑end close, and financial reporting within a fast‑paced retail environment. They are comfortable supporting audits, reviewing journal entries, performing complex reconciliations, and ensuring compliance and accuracy across high‑volume retail transactions, including licensing or wholesale revenue. Highly organized and collaborative, this individual takes ownership of their work, contributes to process improvements and internal controls, and is motivated by growth and increasing responsibility within a dynamic finance team.Job Offer
