Senior R&D Chemist - Chemical Manufacturing - Hickory, NC

The Senior R&D Chemist is tasked with product development and providing technical service for the specialty polymer sector. You will manage assigned projects independently while ensuring a safe work environment. The role involves conducting laboratory work to assess polymer materials, formulating new products, and planning, leading, and analyzing production trials.

My client is a well established, industry leader in the chemical manufacturing industry located just outside of Hickory, NC. They are known for working with specialty polymers which a variety of applications across a multitude of industries. They're a smaller company with multiple sites in the US and prioritize promoting from within, which has lead to happy employees with long tenure.

Description

In this role you will report directly into the R&D Manager and be responsible for:

  • Leading the design and development efforts for a few assigned projects, working closely with R&D management and senior R&D staff.
  • Planning, executing, obtaining, and evaluating results from all experiments, both lab and production scale, in consultation with management.
  • Preparing all required reports as instructed.
  • Following all Design Control Procedures, Safety Policies, Environmental Policies, and other facility requirements where the work is performed.
  • Supporting and collaborating with all company personnel as directed to achieve the goals of assigned projects.
  • Attending internal and external meetings and conferences as instructed.
  • Formulating coatings, including the evaluation of surfactants, dispersants, defoamers, and both inorganic and polymeric fillers to create a stable and effective coating.

Profile

The successful candidate will have:

  • A Chemistry degree, a Biology degree may also be considered
  • Masters preferred
  • 5-10 years of experience
  • Demonstrated product development experience
  • SPC and root cause analysis skills
  • Material analysis and testing knowledge
  • Emulsion/ dispersion experience preferred
  • R&D mentality
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast paced environment
