Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Polymers - Thompson, CT

Description



Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing processes for glass and polymer fiber production, ensuring efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Lead lean manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives to reduce waste, increase productivity, and enhance overall operational performance.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions for process inefficiencies and quality issues.
  • Oversee automation and advanced manufacturing technologies to enhance production capabilities.


Production Support & Troubleshooting

  • Provide technical expertise and leadership in troubleshooting fiber extrusion, drawing, coating, and curing processes.
  • Collaborate with production teams to resolve equipment and process issues, minimizing downtime and maximizing output.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and PFMEAs.


New Product & Process Development

  • Work closely with R&D, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to integrate new materials and technologies into production.
  • Develop and validate new manufacturing processes for innovative fiber products and ensure a smooth transition from pilot to full-scale production.
  • Optimize raw material usage, fiber composition, and process parameters to achieve desired mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties.


Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and industry-specific standards, implementing best practices for quality control.
  • Participate in audits, customer visits, and regulatory assessments to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Analyze production data and quality metrics to drive continuous improvements in product consistency and performance.


Cost Reduction & Efficiency Improvements

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through process enhancements, energy optimization, and waste reduction.
  • Develop capital investment proposals for new equipment, process modifications, and automation projects.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to implement value engineering initiatives.




Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in glass or polymer fiber production.
  • Expertise in fiber processing technologies, including extrusion, spinning, drawing, coating, and curing.
  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and process optimization methodologies.
  • Experience with automation, PLCs, and advanced manufacturing technologies is a plus.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and process simulation tools.
  • Knowledge of ISO standards, OSHA regulations, and environmental compliance.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities to drive cross-functional collaboration.
