Project Manager- Retail Construction

The Retail Project Manager will oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of retail construction projects in Portland, Oregon. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing multiple projects from concept through completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and deep knowledge of the retail construction process.

Client Details

Our client is an established Portland based construction GC with offices across the Portland area. With an excellent reputation on the market, the company has secured an extensive pipeline of ground up commercial projects.

Description

  • Project Planning: Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and schedules for retail construction projects, from new builds to remodels and renovations.
  • Budget Management: Prepare and manage project budgets, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources, materials, and labor. Monitor expenditures and adjust as needed.
  • Team Coordination: Lead and manage the construction team, including subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers. Ensure alignment between all parties involved.
  • Permits & Compliance: Obtain necessary permits and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal building codes and safety regulations.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to prevent project delays or budget overruns.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, including clients, landlords, architects, and engineers. Provide regular project updates and reports.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all construction work meets the company's quality standards, including safety, durability, and aesthetic expectations.
  • Scheduling: Monitor project progress, address issues that may cause delays, and adjust schedules accordingly to meet project deadlines.
  • Vendor Management: Source and manage relationships with suppliers, ensuring the timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Site Visits: Conduct regular site inspections to ensure that construction activities are progressing as planned and adhere to quality standards.
  • Closeout Process: Oversee the project closeout process, including final inspections, punch lists, and the handover of completed projects.

Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction project management, specifically within retail or commercial environments.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and project management methodologies.
  • Proficient in project management software such as MS Project, Procore, or similar.
  • Knowledge of local Portland building codes and regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with competing priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Experience in budget management and cost control.
  • Familiarity with sustainable building practices and LEED certification is a plus.
