Controller

Our client, a well known global restaurant & food marketplace based in Manhattan, is looking for an experienced Assistant Controller or Controller. This is a temp to perm role, and the successful candidate will be immediately available to start a new role.

Well known global restaurant & food marketplace based in Manhattan. This role is 5 days per week in office for the first 1-2 months, before it transitions to 3 days in office with 2 days of hybrid flexibility, and offers a chance to work with a collaborative accounting team for a premier global brand.

Description

The Controller works closely with the Director of Accounting, the Treasury Manager and the Accounts Payable Manager to ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and yearly financial close. The Controller serves as a key liaison and control point in implementing and coordinating corporate accounting services, policies and initiatives. Reports to the Director of Accounting.

• Organizes and coordinates the month-end close with the Accounting, Accounts Payable, Treasury and Business Planning teams: validates and integrates sales and payroll general ledger files; reconciles key accounts on the balance sheet and income statement; reviews proper accounting of all bank transactions
• Manages the accounting and reconciliation of high-value assets such as Accounts Receivable and Fixed assets
• Maintains an in-depth understanding of the key drivers of the business in order to derive clear and succinct analyses of the ongoing financial performance of operations
• Manages timely file and payment of sales and use tax for all store locations
• Provides technical support and administration of ERP functions, including the Payables, Receivables and Fixed Assets subledger
• Manages the preparation and consolidation of internal and external financial statements in US GAAP, ITA GAAP and IFRS, including analysis and reconciliation of intercompany balances
• Works directly with stakeholders and team members to prepare accounting reports and analysis.
• Manages Balance Sheet postings and reconciliation
• Maintains and updates key internal accounting documents, including but not limited to Chart of Accounts, contract, and legal documents
• Coordinates internal and external audits
• Builds and nurture relationships with key internal and external parties including banks, auditors, and legal counsel
• Leads, mentors, and provides clear guidance to junior finance staff
• Performs other duties as required or assigned

Profile

The successful candidate will have:

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Business, Finance and/or Accounting
• Advanced Excel e.g. index-match, sum-ifs, pivot-tables, templates
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, ITA GAAP & IFRS are a plus
• Familiarity with Microsoft Great Plains or other similar ERP
• 5+ years of experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year-end close process
• Ability to learn all aspects of Eataly's retail, restaurant and digital operations within the scope of accounting
• Previous finance experience related to retail business
• Excellent communication skills
• Investigative thinking and analytical skills
• Ability to multi-task in a high-volume, fluid environment
