Automation Engineer - Custom Machinery & Tooling - Buffalo, NY

My client is a leading engineering and manufacturing company serving the Heat Transfer Industry, specializing in the design and build of custom machinery and tooling used in the production of heat exchangers. In addition to their equipment solutions, they provide end-to-end engineering services, including custom design, precision fabrication, CNC machining, and electro-mechanical assembly for a wide range of manufacturing processes.

They are now looking to expand their team with an experienced Automation Engineer to help drive smart manufacturing solutions and industrial automation forward.
Description
- Design and implement control systems for custom machinery, including PLC programming, HMI development, and motion control.
- Collaborate on cross-functional projects from concept to commissioning, including mechanical design integration, electrical panel design, and software logic.
- Support the development of automated processes for heat exchanger assembly and related manufacturing equipment.
- Troubleshoot and optimize automated systems in both production and R&D environments.
- Integrate sensors, actuators, and industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.).
- Ensure all automation solutions meet industry safety and quality standards.
- Provide technical documentation, user manuals, and training to clients and internal teams.
Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in industrial automation, preferably in a manufacturing or machinery design environment.
- Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) and HMI design tools.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, electrical schematics, and control circuits.
- Experience with motion control, robotics, and pneumatic systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with CAD software and system integration tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a hands-on, collaborative mindset.
