Principal Network Engineer
The role involves upgrading outdated storage, backup infrastructure, and network systems, including Sybase to SQL migration, 3PAR upgrades, and NetApp EOL bridges. Description
Key responsibilities include:
Engineering new solutions to replace end-of-life storage and batch processing environments.
Developing complex planning cycles to implement solutions without disrupting services or impacting applications.
Managing production cutover events, including weekend availability for critical tasks.
Collaborating with a team to rapidly assess the current networking environment, prioritize upgrade designs, and work towards strategic goals.
Automation and workload development using Perl, Java, Python across multiple system platforms, particularly in a global financial setting with heavy batch processing and storage needs.
The role also emphasizes the need for experience in financial environments, automation, and database management.
Profile
A successful Network Engineer candidate for this role would have a strong technical background with expertise in network infrastructure, cloud environments (AWS or GCP), and a deep understanding of the financial sector's complex, high-stakes operations. They would possess extensive hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and managing network solutions within global financial environments, particularly those with heavy batch processing and critical storage requirements.
Key qualifications would include:
Experience with AWS or GCP for network and cloud solutions, particularly around data management, automation, and batch processing.
A solid understanding of network security, cloud architecture, and disaster recovery practices, with a focus on minimizing service disruptions.
Proven ability to work in high-pressure environments where uptime and reliability are critical, and to handle production cutovers with minimal impact on services.
Strong automation skills, ideally with tools like Python, Terraform, Ansible, and experience in creating and managing CI/CD pipelines.
Collaborative mindset and ability to engage closely with cross-functional teams to design and implement infrastructure solutions that align with business and regulatory needs in financial services.
Overall, the candidate should be able to demonstrate both deep technical expertise in network engineering and a strong understanding of the unique demands of the financial industry, with a track record of successful projects in similar environments.
Job Offer
Immediate start date, a hybrid 3 days in office out of downtown Stamford CT, a 3 round virtual interview process, and a 6 month contract with the potential for extension.
