Shop Manager, Excavation Contractor
My client is seeking an experienced Shop Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of their shop, a leading excavation contractor serving Chester County and surrounding areas. This role is vital to ensuring the efficient management of equipment, tools, inventory, and maintenance activities. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with heavy machinery, equipment repair, and shop management, coupled with strong organizational skills.

My client is a well-established civil construction contractor based in Chester County, PA serving PA, DE, MD, and NJ markets. They have been in business for over 25 years.
Description
- Manage and supervise the daily operations of the shop, including scheduling, inventory management, and maintenance of equipment and tools.
- Oversee the repair, maintenance, and servicing of excavation equipment, including bulldozers, excavators, skid steers, backhoes, and other heavy machinery.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repair schedules, and parts inventory.
- Ensure that all equipment is compliant with safety regulations, standards, and company policies.
- Coordinate with the Operations Manager to schedule equipment needs for upcoming projects.
- Lead, train, and supervise shop personnel, ensuring they adhere to safety procedures and quality standards.
- Order and manage inventory of parts and materials necessary for repairs and maintenance.
- Assist in troubleshooting and problem-solving equipment issues in a timely manner.
- Monitor and manage the cleanliness and organization of the shop and surrounding areas.
- Ensure the shop is equipped with the necessary tools, supplies, and equipment to perform repairs and maintenance efficiently.
- Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, contributing to the overall success of the company.
Profile
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associates degree in related field a plus).
- 5+ years of experience in equipment maintenance, heavy machinery repair, or related field.
- Prior experience managing a shop, warehouse, or maintenance facility is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of excavation and heavy equipment operation and repair.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using shop management software or tools for inventory and scheduling.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- OSHA certification or similar safety training is a plus.
