Client Details

My client is one of Boston's most reputable Mechanical Contractors, serving the area for 80+ years and producing nearly $200M in annual revenue. Their team partners with the area's leading General Contractors to support complex and technical projects across Life Sciences, Healthcare, Academic and more - with projects ranging from $1M-$100M in annual revenue.

Description

The Chief Estimator will be responsible for:

  • Lead Estimating Team: Manage and mentor a team of estimators to ensure high-quality and accurate bid submissions for mechanical construction projects.
  • Estimate Preparation: Oversee the development of detailed cost estimates for mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, piping, etc.) including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
  • Bid Analysis: Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and scope of work to prepare and submit competitive bids.
  • Cost Control: Establish and monitor budgets for projects, ensuring that estimates are aligned with company profitability goals.
  • Client Engagement: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure a thorough understanding of project requirements and provide value engineering options where applicable.
  • Project Coordination: Work closely with other departments (e.g., project management, procurement, and field operations) to align project estimates with operational capabilities and resource availability.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks associated with the project cost and timelines, and advise the leadership team accordingly.
  • Market Research: Stay up to date with current market trends, materials pricing, and labor costs to provide accurate and competitive estimates.
  • Continuous Improvement: Implement and improve estimating processes, tools, and practices to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and competitiveness.
  • Mentorship and Training: Train and develop junior estimators, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning within the estimating team

Profile

The Chief Estimator will have:

  • 10-15+ years of experience
  • Bachelors degree in construction management, engineering or related
  • Proven track record within the mechanical construction industry (HVAC, Plumbing and/or Fire Protection)
  • Solid understanding of construction contracts, bidding processes, and risk management
  • Proven leadership experience managing direct reports
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong technology/software abilities

Job Offer

The Chief Estimator will receive:
